DISCIPLES IN MOTION

St. Vincent de Paul and Disciples in Motion

One of the more active groups recently formed in our parish has been Disciples in Motion. We have done much over the past year coming together to help take care of our health and our environment. We have done little things to help clean up the area as well as to make ourselves more aware of the beautiful world that surrounds us.

It came to mind recently however that our churches have had disciples in motion for much of our history. The St. Vincent de Paul Societies have served the people who live in our community for years, helping with food, housing, heating, and other basic necessities. This group of volunteers throughout the decades have done so much to help the neediest among us.

It brings me great joy to join these two groups in September! St. Vincent Conferences will be holding their annual Friends of the Poor Walk and Disciples in Motion will be joining in the walk as their September activity.  The walk will take place on Saturday, September 24th beginning at St. John’s parking lot in Swampscott. The lot is located across from St. John’s Church. Registration will begin at 8:30 and the walk will commence at 9. We will walk to Red Rock Park and then double back to St. John’s. All are invited to make a pledge if they wish but we simply ask as many possible to walk to help bring attention to this worthy cause. Water and donuts will be provided!

This is an exciting opportunity for these two great groups to come together, to meet new people, and to help bring the love of Christ to others.  Hope to see you there!

God Bless, Fr. Brian F.

These words of Pope Francis have inspired us to create a new opportunity in our Parish, to form a community of Disciples in Motion. Parishioners, friends, and families are encouraged to participate in some form of physical activity each week both caring for our physical bodies as well as seeing with new eyes and thinking of new ways to care for the beautiful world of nature that surrounds us, what Pope Francis calls Our Common Home. For more information please visit the parish website at www.LynnCatholic.org

“Creation is a gift, it is a wonderful gift that God has given us, so that we care for it, and we use it for the benefit of all, always with great respect and gratitude.”
